In 2 Chronicles 20, in the Bible, the story is told of King Jehoshaphat (king of Judah) and what happened when his country was about to be taken over and destroyed. His enemies had united against him and were on the way to fight him. The first thing the King did was pray. He professed his faith in the power of God and asked God to help, acknowledging that he and his people had no idea what to do. All the people in the country of Judah and Jerusalem prayed. Jehoshaphat spoke to his people and told them that this was not their war, it was God’s war and that they would emerge victorious without even fighting. Then all the people praised God for what they knew he would do. 2 Chronicles 20:21 (The Message) says: “After talking it over with the people, Jehoshaphat appointed a choir for GOD; dressed in holy robes, they were to march ahead of the troops, singing, Give thanks to GOD, His love never quits.” (Can you imagine the faith it took to sing in that choir?) As soon as God’s people began to sing and shout their praise, God attacked the enemy, who then became confused and attacked each other. When the people of Judah arrived at what would have been the battlefield all the enemy troops were dead. The battle was won without their lifting a weapon. God was victorious! Many of us face tough battles in our own lives. Some of our battles are “outward” and seen and shared by others. Other struggles are in our own hearts and minds. In all these circumstances, God is there to fight for us. We must begin as King Jehoshaphat did. We must pray. We must acknowledge that we are powerless and then we must trust that God is enough. Here are some further scriptures to lean on when more faith is needed: Mark 11:22-24 (ESV) “And Jesus answered them, “Have faith in God. Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” Hebrews 11:1 (TLB) “What is faith? It is the confident assurance that something we want is going to happen. It is the certainty that what we hope for is waiting for us, even though we cannot see it up ahead.” Give thanks to God. His love never quits. Smile and be joyful!
