Vanilla or chocolate? Paper or plastic? Left or right? Open or closed? Get mad or get over it? Coffee, tea, milk, juice, water, Dr. Pepper or Coke? (diet or regular?) From the first second we wake up in a day we start making decisions. (Hit snooze or get up now?) Research reports that the average adult makes about 35,000 decisions per day. That’s one every 2-3 seconds. Some decisions we barely notice making. (Legs crossed or uncrossed?) Some are automatic. (Coffee, please!). Others require quick reflection. (Yea, go ahead and large size that!) A lot of the decisions we make have a ripple effect on the rest of our day, like small pebbles tossed into a pond and quickly forgotten. But sometimes the choices we must make in life are like large boulders that if we could pick them up and toss them, would cause waves instead of ripples in our “life lake”. Their wake travels much farther out, and their effects are felt for months and years to come. Which shoes should I wear? (pebble) Should I take that new job offer? (boulder) We usually know a boulder when we see one. (It’s important not to mistake a pebble for a boulder.) When we are at a crossroads in our life path, God doesn’t always put up a road sign that says “Go this way!” or “Falling Rocks Ahead!”. This is why we must spend quiet time with Him, both talking and listening. We need to be able to hear that inner small voice that is God telling us which way to go. I am grateful for the many times that He cleared an obvious path for me or left up a road block to keep me from going the wrong way. (Even if I may not have understood his answer at the time.) We must do our best to look and listen for the good and perfect will of God in our lives. He has a plan. Have faith! Trust God to remove your immovable boulder or to help you get around it. Don’t worry! Either way, He is always able. Jeremiah 29:11 says: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Matthew 6:34 in The Message translation of the Bible says:”Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.” Trust God! Smile and be joyful!
